DII Report: DII baseball 2025 101 — A crash course
What to know about the coming DII baseball season... all in one spot.
Happy opening day, DII baseball fans. Fall ball is done, the transfer portal is closed (for now), and teams are ready to play ball. The Road to Cary begins today (as long as you are reading this on Jan. 31!).
Before the first pitch is thrown. I wanted to make sure you had everything you needed in one place. So, here is your prep work for the 2025 season.
Beginning in September, I spoke or emailed with coaches and tried to highlight as many as the contenders from almost every conference to get a feel of the teams and players to watch. You can check them out here. DII baseball conference previews ($): SSC | LSC | PSAC | MIAA | Conference Carolinas | GSC | PBC | SAC | GLVC | RMAC | NE10 | PacWest | G-MAC | CCAA | GNAC | GAC | GLIAC | MEC
This week on NCAA.com, I dropped my preseason Power 10, the first five out, and 15 more teams to watch to give you, essentially, my preseason top 30. This article is free and you can check it out here. Tampa, Angelo State top the DII baseball preseason Power 10 rankings.
I also gave my first 2025 DII baseball bracket projection based on all those conference previews I did. Throughout the season, I will update those using the selection committee metrics, and we’ll see how close my ridiculously early bracket projection was. Check it out here ($): The DII baseball field of 56, projected.
Last year, Tampa won its ninth championship, tying SSC rival Florida Southern for the most in DII baseball history. Want to know the breakdown, and which programs are among the winningest? Here is a (FREE) article to tell you just that: These schools have the most DII baseball national championships.
That should have you covered. Remember, throughout the season, my Power 10 rankings will be up on NCAA.com every week beginning roughly the third week of February. Unlike other national polls, I like to let everyone get the chance to start playing — especially those teams in the Northeast and Midwest that get a lot of early-season postponed games due to weather — before I truly consider my top 15. Also, last year, I contributed my Cavadi’s Corner to D2 Baseball Insider. While I simply don’t have the extra time to do so this year, if you enjoyed that column, which was basically three “quick hits” from the weekend prior, you will be getting something similar each week right here.
