The DII Report: DII baseball fall report — The SSC
Tampa enters the year as defending national championship as the SSC should be tough yet again.
It’s that time of year, DII baseball lovers. Yes, I know that DII football is being played on the field right now, but baseball players are gearing up for fall ball. That means the return of the DII Report fall reports.
We’ll get started in the conference that is home to the defending national champions. Last year, Tampa tied in-conference rival Florida Southern with its ninth DII baseball title, the most in DII baseball history. As always, Tampa is now geared up for yet another run as the Spartans go for No. 10.
“Winning championships is the toughest thing to do in sports, so it never gets old,” Spartans legendary head coach Joe Urso told me. “With our recruiting philosophy, every year is a challenge to get a new group to buy into the Tampa way and this will always keep me motivated.
“The first championship will forever be my favorite for many reasons, especially the way we won in extra innings. But getting No. 9 for our university has always been a top goal of mine. To tie Florida Southern for the most championships is an amazing achievement.”
