The DII Report: Welcome back
Sorry for the hiatus, but me thinks it's time to bring back the DII Report.
Hey there, DII sports fans. On the heels of the 2024 MLB draft — in which 13 DII players were selected — I am pondering bringing back the DII Report to your inboxes. I have been inspired to attempt to take this little ol’, award-nominated newsletter to the next level by a wonderfully supportive muse.
To do that, I am considering making the newsletter subscription-based, which will be available at a small monthly cost to you (although I have yet to decide what that cost will be, more on that in a few). I know — I am sure you have a few questions.
Why will I have to pay for the DII Report that has been free for four years? The simple answer is time is money. The real answer is some of the work you find here, in particular my DII Report: Fall reports for baseball, are not found anywhere else on the information highway. This is rather important insight for fans and coaches alike, and the coaches are sharing some “inside details,” so I am starting to think that it should not be thrown out there for any and everyone to see.
What do I get if I subscribe? Me, the Dean of DII! Isn’t that worth it?
I kid, of course. Like I said, if you are reading this, you have likely followed my work for a long time. There aren’t many that dig into the world of DII sports — and I enjoy working closely with those that do, like D2football.com, D2 Baseball Insider, and Inkblot Sports (all of whom have some sort of money trickling in) — so I like to think my work is a rare breed, and I try to take it to the next level, getting insights from coaches, scouts, and players alike. So, you can expect fall reports from the baseball field and exclusive interviews you won’t find on NCAA.com or anywhere else.
Don’t worry. If you are a current free subscriber and don’t feel you have the finances to pay, you will continue to get some free articles. You’ll get my Power 10 rankings from NCAA.com and other previews you can find there delivered to your inbox. But the juicy stuff… well, that will cost you.
How much are we talking, Wayne? It’s a good question. I know that with a subscription you will get at the very least one DII Report exclusive article — one you can’t find on NCAA.com or anywhere else — per week, with the goal being more than that. When I get out to games, my reports will be here, and if you’ve followed me, you know they aren’t simply game recaps, but what I call scouting profiles, examining some of the brightest stars that DII has to offer in football, basketball, and baseball.
Plus, there is an option in Substack that allows readers to pledge. I have had people tell me they would pay up to $15 a month for the DII Report, which is humbling. But I don’t think it needs to be that high. Full disclosure, I think I have it narrowed down to $5.99 or $8.99 per month. What would you be willing to pay?
So, stay tuned. I’ll have more information on this as the season approaches. Of course, I wouldn’t be me if I simply sent you a newsletter that was a sales pitch. Sit back, relax, and check out the 13 DII players that were taken in the 2024 MLB draft (FOR FREE!). I spoke to a few head coaches to get insights on the top players selected, so click the link below and enjoy!
