DII Report: Wayne Cavadi's second DII football championship bracket prediction
Has anything changed since last week's initial bracket? You bet it has! Take a look at find out.
Well, that was quite the week in DII football, wasn’t it? No. 1 went down AGAIN, and five huge matchups shined a bit more light on what the bracket could look like come the Nov. 17 selection show. You can take a look at the upsets and the latest Power 10 rankings here.
Let’s take a look at what I think that may look like in this edition of the DII Report. As a reminder, I’ll be doing this every week until the selection show. My first projected bracket was in last week’s DII Report. In case you missed it, you can read it here.
Before we get into the movement in each Super Region, here are some scores that had a major impact on my first projections.
UPSET: Assumption 19, New Haven 14
UPSET: Emory & Henry 17, Carson-Newman 10
UPSET: Augustana (SD) 34, Minnesota State 16
Sioux Falls 23, Wayne State (Neb) 13
UPEST: Ferris State 34, Grand Valley State 7
Pittsburg State 35, Central Oklahoma 21
Western Colorado 38, Colorado School of Mines 28
UPSET: North Greenville 47, Delta State 45 (2)T)
Johnson C. Smith 24, Winston-Salem 15
Remember, this is NOT a regional ranking. Those regional rankings come out Monday, Oct. 28 (and will be listed here) and if you want a great look at what the regional rankings look like in real time, you should be following Inkblot Sports as those numbers come very close. Instead, this is a look at how I expect the top seven in each Super Region will look come selection Sunday, Nov. 17, on NCAA.com.
Wayne Cavadi’s second DII football bracket projection
(Note: If you see a +1 or -1, it is tracking the movement of the team from the previous week)
Super Region One
Kutztown
Charleston (WV)
Cal (PA) +1
Slippery Rock -1
Ashland
East Stroudsburg +1
New Haven -1
In the hunt: Assumption, Findlay, Tiffin
Quick thoughts: I think this is the easiest region to project right now. Again, in “real-time” as of Oct. 28, Charleston (WV) has the metrics to be No. 1, but with Kutztown having a (likely) spot in the PSAC championship, should the Golden Bears win out, I foresee them taking over No. 1. The NE10 is an absolute mess, so where I could be wrong is Nos. 6 and 7. That can easily be Assumption and New Haven or East Stroudsburg and Assumption. Yes, Assumption beat New Haven this week, but both have games remaining that could mess things up. Ultimately, I see one of the two picking up a third loss, and that team will be home for the playoffs.
