DII Report™️: The field of 32 projections before the DII football regional rankings drop
How are we looking with just three weeks to go in the DII football season?
Welcome back, DII football fans. The regional rankings are coming, and the field of 32 projections is shaping up nicely. First, a few notes.
To all you DII baseball fans, fear not. The fall reports will start up again this week. It is crossover season, and I have fallen a bit behind with DII men’s and women’s basketball previews at NCAA.com (you can read them all here for FREE) and all the DII football coverage. But I assure you, the fall reports are alive and well.
Secondly, and most importantly, keep in mind that what you are about to read will likely not align with the first regional rankings you see. Remember, I am looking at the schedules remaining and trying to project the bracket as it will be in three weeks, not real time.
If you’ve been following along, or if you are new, here is your weekly rundown of what you’ll read below if you are a paying subscriber:
Once again, this is my projection of how I think the bracket will look on Nov. 16, not how I necessarily think the seedings would look if the bracket were filled today. If you want to track each super region in real time, Inkblot Sports does a great job of that. Do I say this a lot? Yes. Do I get at least one email a week asking me why my “rankings” are so far off from Inkblot Sports? Yes.
I use the strength of schedule (SoS) posted on NCAA.org. Other sites calculate their own, and that is fine; however, I want to see exactly what the selection committee is handed, and from what I’ve been told, it is that number.
The KPI used by the committee is from Faktor Sports. This has finally been calculated and will be for the remainder of the season. What you’ll see is the overall DII rank in KPI, not the super region rank.
Top 25 winning percentage is NOT a bracket selection criterion. However, I feel it is a nice gauge to see how a team may be performing.
