DII Report™️ — The 2025 MLB Draft, DII style
What to know about the 14 DII alum selected in the MLB Draft.
The 2025 MLB Draft is in the books, and 14 DII players from the 2025 season were selected. The good news — that is up one from last year’s 13. Like last year, the first DII alum off the board was in the sixth round, and like last year, it was by the San Diego Padres.
There are certainly a few teams that have deep scouting systems with an eye on Division II baseball. The breakdown of the 2025 draft by team is as follows:
2 — Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals
1 — Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers
Last year, the Padres selected three DII players in the 2024 MLB Draft, while the Braves selected two. The Orioles, Mets, Rangers, and Mariners also selected a player in the 2024 draft. That makes more than half the teams in this year’s draft repeat DII drafters, and that’s a good thing.
Over the past two years, we have seen 14 DII players selected in 2023. Unlike DII football, which has seen its draft selections get increasingly smaller with the transfer portal, and DII basketball, which has become virtually non-existent, DII baseball has remained remarkably consistent since the draft was cut nearly in half after COVID. Again, many of the same organizations — like the Braves, Orioles, Rockies, and Phillies — had their hands in the DII pot. Want to go back one more year? In 2022, 17 players were selected. DII baseball, as far as future pro careers go, is very much alive and well.
Central Missouri had three players selected from its national runners-up squad. Lander, which made the DII baseball championship in 2025, saw two of its players selected, while several other teams were also represented.
Enough with the history. Let’s get to the picks.
