DII Report ™️: Live from Cary, it's the DII baseball finals
I was in Cary to watch DII baseball history.
The DII baseball championship finals is underway from Cary. I headed to Raleigh to brave the rain and tornado warnings to catch opening weekend. It took a whopping five innings, but I witnessed DII baseball history.
There were six total home runs in the game, all of which were tanks:
Chaise Albus, East Stroudsburg: 423 feet/102 mph exit velocity
Dennis Pierce, East Stroudsburg: 406/109
Owen Blackledge, Lenoir-Rhyne: 429/104
Eli Willen, Lenoir-Rhyne: 410/105
Sal Caricatto, Lenoir-Rhyne: 399/112 (1); 424/106 (2)
Willen’s bomb was No. 132 for Lenoir-Rhyne, breaking the record tied by Quincy in 2023 and set by West Georgia in 1998. You can watch that historic home run on Lenoir-Rhyne’s X page here.
I caught up with head coach Adam Skonieczki, third baseman Eli Willen, and starting pitcher Andrew Harlow to talk about the Bomb Squad. You can read the recap for FREE on NCAA.com here.
