DII Report: Here are the 14 DII baseball players selected in the 2023 MLB Draft
The 2023 MLB Draft is in the books, so let's break down what it looked like for the former DII players.
First of all, welcome back to the DII Report. There is always a lull when the season ends and I need to step back and refuel. It is July and that means the DII football season is quickly approaching, so in the coming weeks, I’ll be sending out some in-depth football articles, breaking down each of my preseason top 25.
But that is for another day. Today, let’s celebrate the 14 players selected in the 2023 MLB Draft. Here, how about some fun facts:
Just two position players were drafted. Drew Cavanaugh, Florida Southern's catcher, was selected in the 17th round and North Greenville’s shortstop Jalen Vasquez was the last DII player selected this year, going in the 20th round.
Let's stick with that magic number two: Three MLB teams selected two DII baseball players (the A's, Orioles, and Giants).
DII conference breakdown (in alphabetical order): Conference Carolinas, 2; GLVC, 1; G-MAC, 1; LSC, 2; MIAA, 1; PSAC, 2; RMAC, 1; SAC, 2; SSC, 2
That’s just a small taste. You can find out all about the players selected by reading my full article on NCAA.com. Check it out.
